Sponsored by: MAN Roland
MAN Roland is proud to be the sponsor for the 2nd World Press Golf Tournament which will take place during the 60th World Newspaper Congress at one of Cape Town's most prestigious Golf Estates, Steenberg.
Steenberg (Mountain of Stone), nestled under the Constantiaberg mountains, is the oldest wine farm in the Cape Peninsula dating back to 1682. The estate has been declared a national monument and boasts a state-of-the art winery, producing some of the country's finest wines.
The Steenberg Estate remains one of the most historically significant landmarks in South Africa. The estate's importance as the oldest wine farm in the Cape peninsula is reflected in the architecture of the homestead which has been restored for preservation.
The golf course designed by the renowned course architect, Peter Matkovich, was tailored to complement the indigenous character of the estate. The various tee placements enable the course to be played at its full championship distance of 6,300 metres - with par 71 and a course rating of 73 - down to a very sociable 5,000 metres with a 71 rating.
Steenberg is a well-balanced golf course. There are combinations of gentle and challenging holes; with different degrees of difficulty and lengths. Each nine finishes with the ideal par 3, 4 and 5 mix. Cape wind conditions have been taken into account in the design of each hole.
Steenberg's tranquil and secluded environment offers golfers an unforgettable experience.
